Tissa Fontaneda Portrait
Luxury Endless: Your love for accessories began in a luxury hotel in southern Italy, observing elegant women and their beautifully crafted pieces. How does that early memory continue to influence your creative vision today?
Tissa Fontaneda: That memory has always remained at the heart of my creative vision. What stayed with me most was the way those women styled themselves so instinctively they knew exactly what they wanted to wear and how they wanted to present themselves. Their elegance felt deeply personal and entirely self-defined. They mixed couture with bags and accessories discovered in small shops and markets around the world, creating a style that was individual, effortless, and never overly constructed. That sense of freedom, authenticity, and personal expression continues to inspire the way I think about design today.
Luxury Endless: You’ve worked with some of the most iconic names in fashion Swarovski, Loewe, Cartier, Louis Vuitton. What is the most important lesson you carried from those years into your own brand?
Tissa Fontaneda: I began working in fashion before the era of the major luxury groups, when accessories were still deeply rooted in craftsmanship, individual dedication, and the singular vision of a designer. It was a more idealistic time, and certainly less driven by profit than the industry is today. And yet, even then, there were constant conversations about business and profitability. One of the most important lessons I carried with me from those years is that there is always a tension between creative vision and commercial reality. Building your own brand means learning how to protect the integrity of design while understanding the demands of the business behind it.
Luxury Endless: The Bubble Bag has become instantly recognizable and synonymous with your name. What does it represent to you personally, and why do you think it resonates so strongly with women around the world?
Tissa Fontaneda: The Bubble Bag is something very personal to me. It is not only beautiful and immediately recognizable, but genuinely different from anything else on the market. In a world where so much can feel familiar, creating something with such a strong and original identity feels like a real achievement, and one I am deeply proud of.
We are often compared to Bottega Veneta, but the reality is that our Bubble leather has nothing to do with woven leather. It is made from a single piece of leather, transformed through a highly distinctive technique into something entirely its own. That originality matters to me. I believe it resonates with women around the world because they respond to authenticity to pieces that feel unique, tactile, beautifully made, and full of character.
Luxury Endless: Your work is rooted in exceptional craftsmanship, especially the complex steaming process behind the bubble effect. How do you balance artisanal tradition with the demands of modern luxury?
Tissa Fontaneda: It is not always something I can explain in purely practical terms, because for me it begins with instinct. I follow what feels right for the brand and for the way I understand beauty. That kind of freedom is essential to the creative process, even if it is not always easy to protect. There are moments when it has to be defended very strongly, but as long as I am the Creative Director of the brand, I will continue to fight for that freedom. It is what allows the work to remain honest, distinctive, and true to its values.
Luxury Endless: Luxury today is evolving less about logos, more about emotion, touch, and longevity. How do you define luxury in 2026, and how does your brand embody that definition?
Tissa Fontaneda: I honestly do not think there is one clear definition of luxury today. In one way or another, it will always remain linked to the idea of status, and social media has only amplified that. But for me, the most meaningful luxury lies elsewhere in individuality, emotion, tactile beauty, and the confidence to choose something that feels personal rather than simply visible.
Tissa Fontaneda is a deeply personal project, and I know it will not be for everyone. It takes courage to choose something different. The women who are drawn to the brand respond to its simplicity, its quiet strength, and its authenticity. They choose these bags not because of trends, but because they genuinely connect with what the brand stands for. To me, that is where real luxury begins.
Luxury Endless: Your pieces are known for their tactile softness and sculptural presence. When designing a new collection, what comes first: the material, the silhouette, or the emotion you want the piece to evoke?
Tissa Fontaneda: For me, it is always a combination of all three. Material, silhouette, and emotion are never completely separate; they evolve together. I am always trying to create a bag that feels beautiful in every sense visually, physically, and emotionally. Of course, I pay attention to the spirit of the moment, but it is just as important that the piece reflects my own instinct and personal sense of beauty. In the end, the goal is always the same: to create something that feels desirable, balanced, and genuinely true to the brand.
Luxury Endless: You’ve lived in Munich, Turin, Paris, and Madrid. How have these different cultures shaped your aesthetic and your understanding of what women want from their accessories?
Tissa Fontaneda: Living in Munich, Turin, Paris, and Madrid has given me a very layered understanding of European style. Each city has its own rhythm, its own expression of elegance, and its own way of understanding femininity, but all of them share a respect for quality, craftsmanship, and individuality. In many ways, Tissa Fontaneda is a reflection of that European heritage. To buy a Tissa bag is not simply to buy an accessory, but to own a piece of European culture, style, and tradition something refined, enduring, and deeply personal.
Luxury Endless: Looking ahead to Summer 2026, what themes, colours, or emotions are inspiring your upcoming collection? Are there new shapes or techniques you’re excited to explore?
Tissa Fontaneda: Summer 2026 is a celebration of revival and heritage. As we mark 15 years since the founding of the brand, this collection places our identity and some of our most iconic shapes and colours at its centre. It is a way of revisiting the essence of Tissa Fontaneda while looking at it through a fresh lens.
At the same time, the collection also opens new directions for the brand. We are introducing our first textile bags, as well as a new 3D interpretation of our signature Bubble leather, which is especially exciting for us. We are also presenting a new version of our iconic Tango a piece that feels not only beautiful, but truly innovative.
Luxury Endless: Your accessories feel timeless pieces to fall in love with again and again. How do you ensure longevity in a world driven by fast trends and constant novelty?
Tissa Fontaneda: For me, real beauty and personal style are always timeless. Trends may come and go, but they should never define a designer’s identity. Of course, I am aware of the world around me, but I do not believe in allowing trend-driven novelty to dictate the essence of what I create. Longevity comes from designing with conviction creating pieces that feel beautiful, personal, and authentic rather than momentary. When a bag has a strong identity and an honest sense of beauty, it can be loved again and again, far beyond a single season.
