Fall Trends 2025: Fringe Theory Proves Movement Is the Message

In a season dominated by monochrome palettes and bold colour blocks, one detail danced its way across the Fall/Winter 2025 collections with unapologetic flair: fringes. No longer reserved for bohemian nostalgia or Western tropes, this season’s fringes are architectural, theatrical, and deeply expressive adding rhythm and rebellion to otherwise structured silhouettes.

At Jil Sander, Lucie and Luke Meier’s final collection was a masterclass in modern minimalism. Their opening white total look clean, sculptural, and serene was punctuated by long sequined fringes that shimmered with every step, transforming restraint into movement. It was a poetic farewell, where even the quietest tones spoke volumes.

Ferragamo, under Maximilian Davis, took a more dramatic route. A crimson gown, inspired by German Tanztheater and the expressive choreography of the 1920s and ’80s, swept down the runway like a living flame. The fringes here weren’t just embellishment they were emotion in motion, echoing Davis’s fascination with surrealism and the distortion of everyday forms.

Dolce & Gabbana, ever the masters of detail, added their signature flair to a parka-style leopard jacket, where subtle fringe accents softened the bold print. It was a nod to their maximalist DNA, reined in just enough for urban wearability.

At Nina Ricci, a black dress with delicate fringe seams evoked a modern-day Daisy Buchanan elegant, mysterious, and ready for a Gatsby revival. Meanwhile, Edeline Lee, the London-based Korean designer known for her timeless occasion wear, offered a Victorian-inspired fringed skirt that felt both romantic and resolutely contemporary. Her pieces continue to resonate with women who seek elegance with edge.

Burberry London leaned into its heritage with a twist. Fringes appeared throughout the collection, but none more striking than on a coat worn by Naomi Campbell. The supermodel, ever commanding, proved that age is irrelevant when presence is eternal. The coat’s movement mirrored her stride strong, fluid, unforgettable.

Rick Owens took the concept to its most avant-garde extreme. His punk crochet fringe pieces blurred the line between garment and sculpture, each strand a rebellion against conformity. It was a raw, tactile expression of Owens’ ongoing dialogue with form and subculture.

Accessories followed suit. Sportmax introduced fringed bags that added a boho touch to its otherwise minimal aesthetic—proof that even the cleanest lines benefit from a little swing. Chloé’s heart-shaped bags, adorned with fringe chains and dangling charms, brought whimsy and romance to the trend, perfect for those who like their luxury with a wink.

This season, fringes aren’t just decorative they’re directional. They speak to freedom, fluidity, and the joy of movement. Whether cascading from a gown or swaying from a shoulder bag, they invite us to walk, dance, and live with more rhythm. In a world often defined by rigidity, Fall 2025 reminds us that fashion, at its best, moves.
